My Flower Filled Week

I found a little down time in between these crazy two weeks I am having. Come Thursday I will be in full work mode getting the flowers for my friends wedding ready. So much pressure! Last week I took a class with one of my favorite Farmer Florists, Erin from Floret. I will have a full recap on the magic that happened in that class very soon. So many amazing photos to go through. I am so lucky to live only an hour away from her, so she sent home 7 buckets full of flowers for me to practice with. And that is exactly what I have been doing. I am so grateful to Erin and her team for giving me the opportunity to practice and build my portfolio with flowers straight from her farm. It was a dream.

It's Here!

Remember this little bouquet I picked in celebration of signing up for an amazing opportunity? That amazing opportunity is tomorrow. I can't believe it is here already. I am so nervous and excited all at the same time. I know this will change a lot and give me a HUGE push in the direction that I want to be going with my future. The last part of August is just going to fly by. I have the class tomorrow and Wednesday and then I am doing the flowers for my first wedding Labor day weekend. Talk about pressure. This floral class couldn't have come at a better time. I hope I remember to take photos of everything. Big things are happening!

Fresh

Happy Friday! I thought it was time for fresh new look around here. I feel like I just grew up from middle school pink and green, to college neutrals with a little pop of yellow. I also added some new pages for you to explore as well! You can now find all of my floral posts by clicking the Florals tab and same for the all of my outfits. I am most proud of my new Washington page. Go take a look at it! An archive of all my travel posts around Washington, with pictures, just in case one of you will be visiting this great state!

Have fun looking around!

Flora Focus || Sunflower

I would love to have an entire patch of sunflowers. The huge kind. The ones that are feet taller than I am and the blooms are as big as my head. One day I will, if the squirrels don't get to them. Could you just imagine getting lost in a field of sunflowers and looking up and seeing nothing but large yellow blooms? Sounds amazing, minus the bugs…

Sunflower
Botanical Name: Helianthus annuus
Flower: Daisy like flower, usually with yellow petals but can also be white, orange, brownish or burgundy. Can be 4-15 inches across. Blooms mid to late summer.
Leaf: Heart shaped leaves with large teeth. Also have bristly hairs. 4-12 inches long.
Meaning: False Riches
When the Spaniards first arrived in Peru in the sixteenth century, they were surprised to see fields of yellow flowers. The same yellow flowers that were made from gold and made into jewelry worn by the Inca Priests who officiated at the Temple of the Sun. Much to the Spaniards surprise these flowers that they saw were not made of gold like the jewelry. False riches.

Sunflowers are also a sign that fall is coming to me. They come up at the same time that corn comes up in the valley. Corn mazes and fall. Who else is more than ready?

Ill Take the Sunshine & Sunflowers

To me these photos look like an easy, laid back, late summer evening. Which it was. I nice change of scenery to what the rest of my weekend looked like. I would have been completely fine with this weekend not even happening. More than fine with it. It included a couple of trips to the hospital, human and doggy kind. Don't worry, everyone is home and doing good for the time being. This was just a very scary weekend and I wouldn't mind if things got back to normal and there be no more hospital visits in my future. Ill take sunshine and sunflowers for now on.

For the Adventure

Im not completely sure what this building used to be. Maybe an old school house. It looks like one. But every time I drive to Eastern Washington I see it and desperately want to take outfit photos in front of it. I finally made that happen last week. I love how the front doors are framed by these two huge bushes, the chipped paint and the look of the broken windows. I just wish I knew the story of this building. How old is it? What happened there? This is exactly why I love this blog. It takes me to places like this, tulip fields out in the country and to rose gardens in the city. Always on the hunt for new places to take photos and to show you just a little bit more of this gorgeous state of Washington.

Woodland Park Rose Garden

Remember last week in this rose post, when I mentioned I wanted to go to the Woodland Park Rose Garden? Well we went that night! Sort of spur of the moment and I am so glad we did it. And this was the perfect time of the year to go when all of the roses were in bloom! This garden is right next door to the Woodland Park Zoo (Another on my must go list) and it opened in 1924. I had no idea it was that old. It is a 2.5 acre formal garden filled with 3000 individual plants. It was gorgeous. The perfect place for a picnic. Rows and rows of rose bushes, a pergola in the middle of it all and bunnies hopping around. Sadly no White Rabbit carrying around an oversized pocket watch however. Maybe next time.
